County Antrim

Belfast

A red-brick port with a short memory in the stones and a long one in the people.

Stay
2–3 nights
Best for
the city, the Antrim coast, food
Base
City centre for a first stay, so the night belongs to you and not to a ring-road hotel.

Belfast is walkable, sharp, and more cheerful than its reputation in older guidebooks. The shipyards, the university quarter and the cathedral streets are close together. The murals are part of the map and not a separate tourist zone to be consumed at speed.

Use the city as a base for the Causeway Coast if you only have a weekend, and give the coast a full day with an early start. A second night out of town is better if you can spare it.

See

  • Titanic Belfast

Genuinely strong on the industry and the ship. Book a time. It is not only a film set.

  • A guided look at the peace lines

Black cab or a community walking tour. Go with someone who lives the context.

  • St George’s Market

Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning. Eat there. Talk to someone.

  • The Causeway, early

Basalt columns, a real wonder, a National Trust site. Before 11, or via the cliff path so the arrival is earned.
